Rajasthan Royals (RR) won a thriller against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2023. RR won the match by 3 runs & now have topped the points table with 6 points (*3 wins) from 4 matches. Sandeep Sharma somehow held his nerve & defended 21 runs off the last over even when MS Dhoni smashed 2 back-to-back sixes and brought down the equation to 7 runs off 3 balls.
Skipper Sanju Samson’s decision to not give the last over to Kuldeep Sen did work well despite the pacer conceding 8 runs in his 2 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin & Yuzvendra Chahal spurned a web in the middle overs as they took 2 wickets a piece. The duo made sure that they don’t give ample room to the batters & were quite economical as well.

CSK’s batters lacked intent against spinners. Devon Conway struck a fine half-century in 38 balls as he smashed 6 overs. It won’t be wrong to say that CSK’s batters left a bit too much at the end of the innings as chasing 40 runs in 2 overs is quite tough even in the presence of Ravindra Jadeja & MS Dhoni.
RR would be pumped up with this victory as chasing 176 was not a big task given how deep a batting lineup CSK had. We should not forget that Trent Boult didn’t feature due to injury. RR still have concerns over their batting lineup, the skipper Sanju Samson was dismissed cheaply. The team are quite dependent on the swashbuckling batter Jos Buttler (*scored half-century) which is not a good sign.

CSK, on the other hand, need to go back to the drawing board. Perhaps, Ambati Rayudu (*impact player) should come into bat in the middle overs. MS Dhoni’s knock of 32 runs in 17 balls, with 1 four & 3 sixes wasn’t enough in the end.
