There was absolute drama in the 15th match of IPL 2023 between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) & Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). LSG won the match by 1 wicket as LSG somehow pulled off a heist. Skipper Faf du Plessis‘ knock of 79 runs in 46 balls went in vain. Faf du Plessis would rue the way RCB’s bowlers bowled in the middle overs phase.
LSG had the game in their bag when they required 5 runs to win in the last over. Harshal Patel foxed the batters with the variations & on the last ball when LSG needed 1 run to win, he tried to run out Ravi Bishnoi at the non-striker’s end but missed it completely & later LSG somehow won the match by 1 wicket & ran on a bye.
RCB would be crestfallen after losing the match by such a close margin which is heart-wrenching. Perhaps, the decision to drop Michael Bracewell didn’t work well as he could have provided breakthroughs in the middle-overs phase.
It was the brutal striking from the destructive left-handed batter Nicholas Pooran who scored 62 runs in 19 balls & struck 4 fours and 7 sixes which took LSG close to the target. Nicholas Pooran was in beast mode & was seen whacking the bowlers all around the park.
IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
RCB’s bowlers allowed Marcus Stoinis to get his eye in the middle overs. Stoinis targeted Karn Sharma & scored a blistering knock of 65 runs in 30 balls as he struck 6 fours & 5 sixes. RCB need to go back to the drawing board & perhaps apply different tactics in the middle overs.
It is a difficult place to bowl at the death- Faf du Plessis
During post-match presentation, Faf du Plessis spoke about the performance of the team. Faf was quite disappointed after the last over drama. Faf also stated that they need to work on their bowling at the death. Faf praised how LSG’s batters scored runs in the middle overs phase.
“Disappointed. They played well through the middle. One ball one run. We backed ourselves to get a run-out. Just looking at the wicket, from 7-14 it was quite slower. The last five overs it started skidding on. Really good for some good cricketing shots. Stoinis and Pooran played everything off the middle. They took on one of our main bowler (Harshal) in his first couple of overs,” said Faf du Plessis.
“It is a difficult place to bowl at the death. You have to be on top of your game. I was struggling for most part of my innings. Was happy to give strike back to Kohli, sometimes you have to scratch. When I started hitting a few of the middle I got my flow back,” he added
