Updated IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange Cap, And Purple Cap After RCB vs DC and LSG vs PBKS

The Indian Premier League 2023 was back with some exciting double-headers for the weekend as Royal Challengers Bangalore got back to winning ways in the IPL, defeating Delhi Capitals by 23 runs in the first game handing their opponents their fifth consecutive loss in the tournament.

RCB had a good start in their innings with an opening partnership of 42 runs. Virat Kohli scored a half-century but got out soon after. Kuldeep Yadav picked up important wickets for Delhi Capitals, but Shahbaz Ahmed and Anuj Rawat stabilized RCB’s innings. RCB scored 174 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals struggled in their chase as they lost 4 wickets in the power play. Manish Pandey and Axar Patel tried to revive the innings, but RCB’s bowlers kept taking wickets. Vijaykumar Vyshak, making his IPL debut, impressed with 3 wickets.

RCB’s other bowlers also contributed, with each taking at least one wicket, except for Shahbaz Ahmed. Mohammed Siraj took 2 wickets. Pandey reached his half-century, but Delhi Capitals fell short as RCB won the match.

The second game of the day saw Lucknow Super Giants put up 159 runs on the board against the Punjab Kings. LSG tried to give their best in defending the respectable total but fell short in the end.

Lucknow batting first managed to rack up 159 runs on the board thanks to a very crucial 74 runs knock off 56 deliveries, none of the other batters apart from Kyle Mayers and Krunal Pandya had a noteworthy contribution to the scoreboard. Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada were brilliant with the ball picking up 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

Punjab had a rough time with the chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Matt Short and Sikandar Raza played some very crucial knocks in the middle overs to keep their side alive in the game, with Raza’s fifty coming in big clutch.

It was Shahrukh Khan who rose up to the occasion and finished the job for his side handing them the 2-wicket win over their opponents.

While the loss does not affect LSG’s standings on the points table as they remain at 2nd, Punjab Kings with the win over their opponents now have 6 points and move up to 4th place. Similarly, Bangalore’s win over Delhi sends them one place over the Sunrisers with the team now positioned at 7th while Delhi remain at the bottom.

Some big changes to the Orange Cap standings after the first double headers from the weekend day 1. While Shikhar Dhawan maintains his spot at the top of the table, Delhi’s David Warner is just 5 runs behind him. Virat Kohli has risen to the 3rd place with 214 runs to his name while Jos Buttler drops to the 4th position with 204 runs.

RCB skipper Faf Du Plessis is back in the top 5 with his knock of 22 runs against Delhi, now standing at 5th place with 197 runs. This is the first time since the start of the tournament that Chennai Super Kings’ Ruturaj Gaikwad has dropped from the top 5 in the standings.

The Purple Cap standings see some new changes as well after the first set of games from the weekend. One change in the top three with Lucknow’s Mark Wood leading the standings with 11 wickets followed by Yuzvendra Chahal with 10 wickets at 2nd and Rashid Khan with 9 at 3rd.

We have two new names in the rankings, Lucknow’s’ spinner Ravi Bishnoi moves into the 5th spot with 8 wickets to his name while being closely followed by Punjab’s Arshdeep Singh who now has 8 wickets to his name.
