The weekday double header from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was bound to bring excitement to the screen as Lucknow Super Giants were up against the Chennai Super Kings in the opening contest of the day which was followed up by Punjab Kings hosting Mumbai Indians at home for the second bout of the night.

The match between Chennai and Lucknow had to be ended in a no contest as rain played spoilsport and the game could not be resumed following 19.2 overs in the first innings. While there were some signs of the rain going off as the covers were taken off for a minute, the rain returned with both teams being forced to share points at the end of the day.

The second match however, lived up to its hype following the disappointment earlier in the day as Punjab Kings racked up a massive 214 runs on the board after being invited to bat first by MI skipper Rohit Sharma. Liam Livingstone was the show for Punjab scoring a brilliant 82 off 42 deliveries while being supported by Jitesh Sharma who scored an unbeaten 49 as the duo put up a unbeaten 119 runs partnership for the fourth wicket.4

Suryakumar Yadav was once again in brilliant touch with the bat as he scored 66 runs off just 31 deliveries keeping Mumbai en route to the 215 runs target on the board.

However, it was Ishan Kishan’s night to shine as the batter racked up a brilliant 75 runs off just 41 that saw Mumbai get the needed platform to pick up the much-needed win from the contest with Tim David and Tilak Varma once again nailing down the finishing role to perfection.
