Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Nicholas Pooran opened up about his knock in the 15th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He said that he put himself under a lot of pressure in the last two seasons but this year he wants to turn things around.

Nicholas Pooran was the chief architect behind LSG’s victory against RCB at the Chinnaswamy stadium. The keeper-batted played his best knock in the league and made sure that he helped his side chase the target to win their second game on the trot.

Chasing the mammoth target of 213 runs, LSG had a horrendous start as they lost three wickets for just 23 runs. But after that Marcus Stoinis blasted a staggering half-century to bring his side back into the game. But his wicket along with KL Rahul put RCB back in the game.

It was then when the Pooran storm stuck RCB. The southpaw came out all gun blazing and smashed six on the second ball he faced. He didn’t look back after that as he then really took off and smashed the opposition bowlers all over the park to put them under tremendous pressure.

Pooran smashed the fastest half-century of the season in just 15 balls and ended with the knock of 62 runs in just 19 balls. He scored 4 fours and 7 sixes in his innings and batted with a strike rate of 326.32 to help his side win the game by just 1 run.

Nicholas Pooran dedicated his knock to his wife and daughter and said that with the kind of wicket it was, they could’ve chased even 50 in the last four overs. While speaking at the post-match presentation, he said:

“I want to dedicate this performance to my wife and new born. We knew that the game was on, Stoinis and KL had a wonderful partnership. Stoinis kept us in the game and I knew this was a nice wicket. We could chase even over 50 in the last four, it was about cashing in. The second ball I came in and smashed a six. It isn’t about getting a look in, if it is in my slot then I will smash it for six.”

RCB vs LSG: “Over the past couple of years, I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself,” says Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran, who hasn’t quite lived up to the expectations in the last few years in IPL, hopes that this season to good for him as he’s in a good frame of mind and wants to win games for his team. He said:

“Over the past couple of years, I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself to finish games. Today also I wanted to finish the game, but got out in the end. I hope this is the season for me, in a good space and state of mind. Just want to enjoy my cricket, play with a smile and entertain, and win games for my team.”

RCB will be next seen in action when they will take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next game on Saturday (15th April).
