Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashed with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was a last-ball thriller that kept almost everyone on their feet.

Asked to bat first, Virat Kohli (61) took RCB off the flier with his staggering knock at the top of the order. Virat Kohli stitched a 96-run opening partnership with Faf du Plessis (79*), who then blasted a 115-run partnership with Glenn Maxwell (59). On account of their half-centuries, the home side posted a total of 212 runs on the board.

It was then a dream start for them with the ball as they chipped in with early wickets and left LSG tottering at 23/3. But after that, they couldn’t maintain the pressure as Marcus Stoinis came out all guns blazing and smashed a brutal half-century. They did manage to take his and KL Rahul’s wickets but Nicholas Pooran took the game away from them.

The Southpaw smashed the fastest half-century of the season and ended with a knock of 62 runs in 19 balls. Ayush Badoni then took his side close to the target with his 30-run knock before a last-over drama saw LSG claiming the game by just 1 run.

Virat’s wife Anushka Sharma was also present in the stands and the camera kept focusing on her as the game went down the wire. One such moment that caught the attention of many was between Anushka Sharma and Kohli. After RCB lost the game, the batter was seen glancing towards his wife, who was shaking her head in disbelief.

RCB vs LSG: “We backed ourselves to get a run-out,” Faf du Plessis on last ball drama

The game went down the last ball with LSG needing 1 run in 1 ball. Harshal Patel bowled a brilliant slower ball, which Avesh Khan missed. Bishnoi, who was at the non-striker’s end, was quick to run but keeper Dinesh Karthik fumbled to grab the ball and it saw LSG claiming the match by just 1 wicket.

Faf du Plessis was disappointed that his side couldn’t get the run out on the last ball. He lauded the opposition for playing well and said:

“Disappointed. They played well through the middle. One ball one run. We backed ourselves to get a run-out. Just looking at the wicket, from 7-14 it was quite slower. The last five overs it started skidding on. Really good for some good cricketing shots. Stoinis and Pooran played everything off the middle.” Faf du Plessis said at the post-match presentation.

RCB will be next seen in action when they will take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next game on Saturday (15th April).
