Ahead of ICC World Test Championship final, Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin recalled Rahul Dravid’s speech which is his best moment of ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. Rahul Dravid praised Ravichandran Ashwin in the dressing room in December 2022 after the Test series against Bangladesh.
India faced Bangladesh in a two-match Test series in December last year. After winning the 1st Test, India was in a critical situation in the 2nd Test while chasing. However, Ravichandran Ashwin came up with a match-winning knock and etched a crucial partnership with Shreyas Iyer to design India’s victory by 3 wickets. A defeat could have cost India a place in ICC World Test Championship final.

Ravichandran Ashwin Recalls His Best Moment of ICC World Test Championship 2023
While speaking to ICC ahead of World Test Championship final, Ravichandran Ashwin recalled the moment when Rahul Dravid praised him in the dressing room after his match-winning knock in Bangladesh Test. The veteran Indian spinner also said that it will remain his best moment in the tournament.
“We’ve had our moments in this last cycle, especially where we could have been knocked out quite a few times and have just held tight. I think the moment of the WTC, I don’t know irrespective of what happens in this game, would be Rahul (Dravid) bhai’s speech after the Bangladesh Test that we had at Mirpur”, Ashwin said.
“I think we were just going to be knocked out of the WTC race in that particular Test, so we finished the game and I came out and was really pumped up, I don’t think we expected… nobody expected us to win, even inside the dressing room. Rahul just said, ‘It was a great game of cricket and Ash, we were never in doubt’. That is probably the moment of the WTC cycle as far as I’m concerned,” Ashwin further added.
Ashwin also feels that the forthcoming WTC final can be a lucky game for the team.
“Like he (Dravid) said, we were never in doubt, even though we went through the ride. I think in the last cycle we really quite dominated and got into the Final. This time we’ve had our ups and downs, and that’s probably why I think this particular game could be lucky number two for us,” Ashwin further said.
In the 2nd Test match against Bangladesh, India had a target of 145 in the final innings. At one point, India lost 7 wickets for just 74 runs. However, Ashwin (42*) and Shreyas Iyer (29*) helped the team to win by 3 wickets with their unbeaten knocks.
Meanwhile, India and Australia are set to battle against each other in ICC World Test Championship final. The match starts on June 7 (Wednesday). The venue of the encounter is Kennington Oval Stadium in London, England. While Rohit Sharma leads India, Pat Cummins leads Australia in the match.
