Precautions Key to Playoff Success

The Boston Bruins have already set the modern NHL record for most wins in a regular season season with 64, and goaltender Linus Ullmark has been instrumental in his team’s incredible success. He’s a lock for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender, with a career-high 40 wins, a 1.89 goals against average, a.938 save percentage, and two shutouts.

There was some concern, however, during last night’s game, a 5-2 victory over the visiting Washington Capitals at TD Garden. Midway through the third period, Ullmark was replaced by Jeremy Swayman; Ullmark appeared to have tweaked something while making a save.

The good news is that Ullmark is “fine,” according to head coach Jim Montgomery, and that his removal from the game was simply a precautionary measure.

“Just precautionary,” Montgomery said. “He’s going to be fine. Just some muscle-tightening. That’s all.”

Despite this, the team has made a roster change, bringing in goaltender Brandon Bussi from the American Hockey League affiliate Providence Bruins. Meanwhile, Ullmark will not be traveling with the team to tomorrow night’s game against the rival Montreal Canadiens.

“Linus is good today. But we’re going to be precautionary with him,” Montgomery said.

In 31 games with Providence this season, Bussi has a 21-5-4 record, a 2.38 goals against average, and a.925 save percentage.
