Mumbai Indians To Wear WPL Jersey For Special Initiative Against KKR

Mumbai Indians will be playing their upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at home for a special initiative. The match will be played in Mumbai from 3.30 pm on Sunday, April 16.

KKR are heading into this game on the back of a loss against SRH at home on Friday. MI, on the other hand, won against DC to notch up their first win of the season. Rohit Sharma will be leading Mumbai Indians while Nitish Rana will lead the KKR outfit.

So far in 31 matches in the IPL, MI have won 22 and KKR just nine, However, KKR have won their last three games against MI. KKR are placed fifth on the points table while MI are ninth.

Meanwhile, the MI men’s team will be wearing their WPL jerseys in the match against KKR. This is an initiative for the special ESA day (Education and Sports For All), an initiative by Reliance Foundation, headed by Nita Ambani. Over 19000 girls will be present at the Wankhede for the MI vs KKR match.

Mumbai Indians To Play Against KKR For Special ESA Initiative

Mark Boucher, the head coach of the MI men’s team, Jhulan Goswami, the MI women’s team’s bowling coach, and Kieron Pollard, the Mumbai men’s batting coach that this initiative will motivate the girls to take up the sport professionally.

MI Mentors On Special ESA Initiative

“Mumbai Indians have been fantastic in creating this initiative and hopefully, it’s going to go out to the rest of the world. The biggest lesson is that they will take away from this game as well is that seeing sports and inspiring them to be able to play sport at a professional level one day,” Boucher was quoted as saying in a video uploaded on MI’s Twitter handle.

“Definitely, it’s going to motivate them and encourage them. In the future, we will see a lot of girls coming into the sport,” Goswami said.

“I think that’s a fantastic sort of gesture, not only for kids or whatever, but for the ladies of this generation. It’s very very instrumental in the development of any kid and, more so, ladies and girls, especially in sports. So, it gives you a different perspective of what you can accomplish as an individual and as a female,” said Pollard.

MI’s Twitter handle has also posted pictures of players holding the WPL jerseys for the upcoming game. Having lost the previous game, KKR needs to win this game to return to winning ways.
