“Means A Lot, My Hard Work Is Going In The Right Direction,” Shubman Gill After Winning Most Valuable Player Of The Season Award In IPL 2023

Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill opened up about his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that he’s delighted that his hard work is going in the right direction as he practiced a lot ahead of the season and also changed his technique as well. 

Shubman Gill had his best in the IPL as he set the stage on fire and was the highest run-scorer in the league. The GT opener defined the term class in the 17 games that he played this season as he smashed runs for fun and grabbed the eyeball of many.

Shubman Gill had the second most prolific season in the IPL as he scored 890 runs in the 16 innings at a staggering average of 59.33 along with a strike rate of 157.80. What was impressive was he smashed 4 half-centuries and 3 centuries this season. The batter started the season on high with a half-century and then didn’t look back.

Shubman Gill’s impressive performances saw him winning the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament this year. He also won the Orange Cap and broke a plethora of records this season. He was the main reason behind his team’s success this season.

Shubman Gill said that it was important for him to start the season on high. He highlighted that he was disappointed with himself for not converting the starts in the early part of the season. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said: 

“Means a lot, my hard work is going in the right direction. We couldn’t win the final, but it was one hell of a game. It is very important to start well and I started well, I was getting 40s and 50s and at the end of the tournament, I converted them into big ones. I practiced a lot, changed my technique for the death, and I has been good.”

CSK vs GT: “All the hundreds were quite different,” Shubman Gill on his three tons this season 

Shubman Gill also opened up about the three hundreds he scored this season. He said that it all was different as it came in different scenarios. He elaborated: 

“All the hundreds were quite different, the SRH one was about control and MI one was knowing which bowlers to go after. I picked the right bowlers, and controlled the situation well.” 

Shubman Gill will now head to England, where he will join the India team for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia from 7th June.
