LSG vs PBKS: “We Play Our Roles And That Makes The Team”

Last Update on: April 16th, 2023 at 12:02 am

KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants were handed a narrow 2 wickets defeat in their match against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2023. While LSG remain at the 2nd position on the points table with 6 points to their name in their 5 games, winning the game against Punjab could have seen them climb to the top of the table.

LSG skipper KL Rahul played a crucial role with the bat to help his side put up a decent 159 runs on the board but did not receive any support from his fellow teammates apart from Kyle Mayers up top as the team kept losing wickets at constant intervals.

The KL Rahul-led side managed to put Punjab down to their last legs with Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi once again producing brilliant performances with the ball. However, it was not enough for the team as Shahrukh Khan managed to hold his nerves and provide Punjab with the finishing flourish.

Earlier in the innings, after losing wickets early in their innings Matthew Short and Sikandar Raza got the innings back on track with some much-needed build-up in the middle overs which set up the foundation for the chase. Raza in particular was brilliant with the bat as he notched up his first fifty in the tournament.

Game On The Line, You Have To Give Everything: KL Rahul

Lucknow Super Giant’s skipper KL Rahul was present with the broadcasters during the post-match presentation where he touched down on his team’s performance as a unit. “We were about 10 short, the dew came in and helped the batters a bit more. We didnt do too well with the ball. (On what is a par score here) When you’re playing on a new pitch, you cant rely on previous games so we are taking it as it comes. Assessing it as it comes to think what would be a par total. If a few guys get going, we can get that 180-190 mark like Mayers and Pooran played well in that DC game, but unfortunately today a few batters got caught on the boundary lines.”

“If they went over, the score could have been different. Part of the game, we learn from it. (On his diving catch) Game on the line, you have to give it everything on the field. I saw the ball and went for it. (On finding balance between aggression and anchoring) Each player has a different role, we are 7-8 batters in our team and few are powerful enough to clear every boundary, the others have different skills.”

“We each play our role and thats what makes the team exciting. We have power in Pooran and Stoinus, and Mayers up top takes the aggressive route. For each player taking that aggressive route can look different, you have to stick to what works best for you.”
