Bangladesh keeper-batter Litton Das claims that he is not too concerned with securing a spot in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) playing XI for IPL 2023, as he is looking at the tournament as a learning experience.
Das impressed onlookers with his fearless cricket in all three formats over the past few months. He had an average of over 50 in ODI in 2022. He was even the standout player for his nation in their series against India late last year. All this got him picked up by KKR for 50 lakhs in the mini-auction for IPL 2023.

Having arrived at the camp after the team has already played three matches, he will depart in the first week of May, before Bangladesh tours Ireland. He will be missing the second half of the tournament.

“I don’t know if I’m going to play there (for KKR) and there’s no guarantee of performance there, it’s just a learning process,” he told reporters before departing for Kolkata.

With a foreign wicket-keeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz already in the team, Litton Das does not have much chance to break through in the team, especially if he will be here for 3-4 weeks. But he will learn all that he can in the time period, he said –
“Of course I will stay here for 20-25 days and I will try to gather ideas about all the fields so that it can help in future.”
Litton Das will miss sharing the locker room with Shakib Al Hasan in IPL
Litton Das was not supposed to be the only Bangladeshi playing for KKR, as a veteran all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan was to be part of the squad for the 2023 season too. The young batter says that he will miss the fellow national team player’s presence.
Shakib opted to make himself unavailable for IPL this year due to family reasons. KKR, who bought him for Rs. 1.5 Crore, granted him his release.
Speaking about his absence, Litton Das said –
“See, it’s a different story now. Of course it would be great if he (Shakib) could go there. It would be good because we are players from the same country and would have shared the same dressing room.”
Litton Das will look to make a place in Knight Riders’ playing XI, but it is unlikely due to his short stay in the tournament.
