Former Australian all-rounder and SRH coach Tom Moody has made his opinion on Chennai Super Kings winning their fifth IPL title. CSK defeated GT on May 29, Monday by five wickets to win their fifth IPL title.
Gujarat Titans scored 214/4 batting first. Sai Sudharsan’s 96 off 47 balls played a big part in taking GT to that score after Wriddhiman Saha’s 54 off 39 balls. CSK’s target was revised to 171 in after 15 overs after rain interruption during the mid-innings break.

Tom Moody talking to ESPN Cricinfo, said that the rain delay played to CSK’s advantage with the DL method coming into play. MS Dhoni at the toss did speak about the weather being a factor in their decision to chase and it turned out exactly the same way.
Toss And Batting Second Worked In CSK’s Favour: Tom Moody
“That rain delay definitely gave CSK the advantage. Therefore, the toss, and batting second, played out in their favor. To me, the total they had to chase with a reduced number of overs was more favorable than the total that they actually would have had to chase if it was a full game,” said Moody.

He then spoke about the two Afghanistan wrist spinners and their performances in the big final. Noor Ahmad took 2 for 17 in three overs while Rashid Khan went for 44 runs in his three overs.
“I don’t think Rashid Khan was consistent with his lengths. He was either too short or too full. His partner-in-crime, Noor Ahmad, had the complete opposite experience, and he bowled beautifully. I am sure when Rashid looks back on this game, he would see that he didn’t have the consistency which makes him so difficult to face,” Moody added.
Rashid Khan Made No Impact In The Final: Tom Moody
Moody concluded by saying that Rashid’s failure to make an impact in the big fan worked to CSK’s advantage as well. He further added that his spell made the job easier for the Chennai Super Kings.
“The big story also is Rashid Khan. In a big match, a final game, where so much hinged on him, went for plenty. Made no impact at all. In fact, was one of the bowlers who made the job easier for CSK,” said Moody.
Chennai Super Kings is now the most successful IPL franchise alongside Mumbai Indians winning five IPL titles each.
