Gujarat Titans (GT) opening batter Shubman Gill has said that team captain Hardik Pandya had an “off-day” against Delhi Capitals (DC)

IPL 2023 is a tournament full of surprises, as bottom-of-the-table DC defeated table-toppers GT in the latter’s home ground of Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Not only that, they defended a paltry total of 130, which the guests reached after being stranded at 27/4 at a point in their innings.

Hardik Pandya scored a half-century in the Titans 5 runs loss. More specifically, he scored 59-off-53. While he did anchor the innings after their top-order collapsed, his glacial innings an inability to score boundaries in the last few overs might have just lost GT the match.

Shubman Gill, who was dismissed by Anrich Nortje for just six, commented on Hardik Pandya’s gutsy-yet-struggling innings, claiming that the 29-year-old just had an off-day out on the pitch.

“As a player and as a batsman, we are all bound to have one off days. It was just one of those off days. But he did back himself to get those runs but credit to Delhi, they bowled some really good yorkers at the back end,” he said.

“We could not get any rhythm” – Hardik Pandya on GT’s failed run-chase against DC

After failing to chase a 131-run target, Hardik Pandya took full responsibility for Gujarat Titans’ surprising loss against Delhi Capitals.

Despite scoring a hard-fought 50, Pandya never seemed to have found the flow at any point in his innings. He was not able to hit boundaries at crucial junctions of the innings, especially in the final few overs

Speaking in the post-match presentation, the skipper claimed that he could not find any rhythm throughout the run-chase, saying –

“Obviously, we would have taken 129 on any given day. Those last couple of wickets and at the end, Rahul got us back in the game. I tried my best but could not capitalise. It boils down to how I was not able to finish the game. We were hoping to get a couple of big overs in the middle but at that point of time we could not get rhythm.”
