MEQUON, Wis. – It’s not that big of a surprise that Gonzaga got off to a rough start to open 2023. Coming off a sensational 2022 season that included a 37-19 record, an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and a 1-2 showing at the Blacksburg Regional, the Zags lost quite a few integral pieces on their team, particularly on the pitching side of things. Most notable was the departure of staff ace Gabriel Hughes, who was taken 10^th overall in last year’s draft by the Colorado Rockies.
