Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered a narrow defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS). PBKS won the match by 2 wickets as it was a collective effort from PBKS’ batters. Sikandar Raza played a calm & composed knock of 57 runs in 41 balls as he struck 4 fours and 3 sixes. Sikandar Raza had come into bat when PBKS were in a spot of bother at 45-3 in 6 overs.

Sikandar Raza took calculative risks as the pitch was not a belter. PBKS’ finisher Shahrukh Khan played a match-winning cameo of 23 runs in 10 balls and struck 1 four and 2 sixes. Earlier in the run chase it was Matthew Short who played a staggering knock of 34 runs in 22 balls and got the team to a decent start.

KL Rahul surprisingly didn’t make Marcus Stoinis bowl an over or two even when the pitch was assisting the pacers. The left-arm off-spinner Krunal Pandya had a forgettable outing as he conceded 32 runs in his 3 overs and took a solitary wicket. Perhaps, Ravi Bishnoi should have been brought into the attack early rather than 15th over.

It won’t be wrong to say that LSG got a reality check, their batting lineup got exposed. LSG are placed at 2nd position in the points table with 6 points with an NRR (net run rate) of +0.76. LSG’s coaching staff needs to have a word with the batters as another 15-20 runs could have made the difference.

PBKS on the other side would believe that they can create panic in the opposition team’s dugout. The interim skipper (*Shikhar Dhawan missed out due to injury) Sam Curran couldn’t have asked for a better debut to his IPL captaincy. It was a complete team performance and now have climbed to 4th position with 6 points and an NRR of -0.06

Credit to Shahrukh – Sikandar Raza

During the post-match presentation, Sikandar Raza spoke about winning the Player of the Match award. Sikandar Raza stated that he was quite disappointed to not finish the game and gave credit to Shahrukh Khan for wrapping up the game. Sikandar Raza also pointed out that he wanted to make a mark after having two average games in IPL 2023.

“Feels great to be honest. When I got out, there were a few demons in my head. Credit to Shahrukh. Nice to get a fifty but if we had lost, I wouldn’t have felt so good. It’s one of the biggest stage. You’re here and you want to do well. I’ve had two average games which was there in my head,” said Sikandar Raza.

“Jitesh’s wicket was very crucial. Had he stayed on for 6-8 balls, he would’ve finished the game himself. But the way Shahrukh came out hitting his first ball for six, I was confident in him,” he added.
