Dream11 Replaces Byju’s As Team India’s Shirt Sponsors

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has penned a three-year deal with Dream Sports for the sponsorship of the Indian team’s jersey. Dream11 will replace Byju’s as the Indian team’s shirt sponsors, the board confirmed on Saturday (July 1).

Last month, the Indian cricket board had invited tender applications from interested business houses for the team’s lead sponsorship rights after Byju’s ended their association at the end of the last financial year. The Ed-Tech company had a USD 35 million deal for the most visible space on the Indian team jersey – the front.

The deadline to buy the bid document for a non-refundable fee of Rs 5 lakh was June 26. In May, the BCCI had also announced global sporting apparel giants Adidas as Team India’s new kit sponsors.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pleased to announce Dream11, India’s biggest fantasy sports gaming platform as Team India’s lead sponsor for the period of three years.

“Dream11 will be seen on Team India jerseys starting from the Test series against the West Indies, the team’s first assignment in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle,” stated BCCI.

According to reports, Dream11 will feature prominently on the sleeves of Indian players across formats and teams. During the deal with Byju’s, BCCI was earning around Rs 5.5 crore for every bilateral fixture. However, the value dropped to Rs 1.7 crore for an ICC game because the logo had to be removed from the front of the jersey. And the BCCI is likely to earn less in their new deal with Dream11 as compared to what they were getting from Byju’s.

No confirmation on bilateral media rights yet:

According to Cricbuzz, the much-awaited bilateral media rights deal of the BCCI is set to be delayed. The broadcasters who are interested in buying the rights have sought more time from the Indian cricket board. In March this year, BCCI’s bilateral rights deal with Disney Star Sports came to an end after the home series against Australia.

Since then, the BCCI have been without a sponsor for the domestic games. The board was aiming to get the new deal done by July but the plan is set to be delayed. As per Cricbuzz, a final call on the matter is unlikely before August.

The report stated that the BCCI might be waiting for the final decision on the impending merger between Sony and Zee. While the deal was expected to be completed by December last year, it is yet to finalise. The board believes that a joint bid from Sony-Zee could result in a fierce contest between the parties for the rights. With no bilateral home series scheduled until December, the BCCI is reportedly in no hurry to get things done.
