Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni won the toss & opted to bowl first against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final of IPL 2023. MS Dhoni during the toss time stated that chasing would be quite easy as there is rain forecasted later in the evening.
GT got off to a flyer as they scored 62 runs in the first 6 overs for the loss of no wickets. Shubman Gill was dropped twice as the bounce of the surface was quite uneven and at the same time, the fielding wasn’t quite up to the mark.

Deepak Chahar conceded 31 runs in his 3 overs and tried a lot of variations which didn’t help the team. The mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana too was taken to the cleaners by Shubman Gill in the 6th over as he along with Wriddhiman Saha decimated CSK’s bowling lineup.

At the end of 6 overs, GT’s score was 62-0. Ravindra Jadeja was bowling the 7th over, on the last delivery Shubman Gill tried to play a shot towards the cover region but failed to make any contact with the ball and was beaten, within a fraction of second MS Dhoni dislodged bails and Shubman Gill was found out of his crease.

Shubman Gill was dismissed on 39 runs in 20 balls and was slowly getting into the groove. GT’s score at 7 overs was 67-1 and all of a sudden we can witness the spinners getting assistance from the surface.
Crucial phase for CSK
CSK skipper MS Dhoni would sense that they can apply brakes on the scoring run rate. It won’t be easy for B Sai Sudharsan to dictate the terms immediately. MS Dhoni might consider bringing Moeen Ali into the attack for an over or two.

GT’s veteran batter Wriddhiman Saha will have to make the most of the start who has scored 28 runs in 22 balls. GT must aim to set a target in excess of 170, there are chances that dew may come into action later during CSK’s run chase.
