Punjab Kings (PBKS) suffered a heart-wrenching defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT). GT won the match by 6 wickets with 1 ball left. It was the spell of Mohit Sharma when he took 2 wickets & gave away 18 runs in his 4-over spell. Mohit Sharma bowled impeccable lines & lengths.
Once again it was the brilliance of Rahul Tewatia who struck a match-winning boundary when GT needed 4 runs to win in 2 balls. Sam Curran astonishingly bowled a bit short of a length and Tewatia went across and played a scoop shot towards fine leg.

PBKS couldn’t create any sort of panic in the power-play overs which hurt them as conceding 56 runs in the run chase of 154 doesn’t keep the team in good stead. The left-arm off-spinner Harpreet Brar was the pick of the bowlers who took 1 wicket & conceded 20 runs in his 4-over spell.

Shubman Gill played a calm & composed knock of 67 runs in 49 balls as he smashed 7 fours & 1 six. GT would be slightly disappointed with the way they chased the target. They needed 25 runs to win in 3 overs & had 7 wickets in hand as later NRR (net run rate) might come into play. GT now have won 3 matches out of 4 with a NRR of +0.34

PBKS head coach Trevor Bayliss needs to have some serious talks with PBKS’ batters as the likes of Bhanuka Rajapaksa & Sam Curran looked clueless against both pacers & spinners. Not a single batter scored 40-odd runs which is unacceptable in modern cricket.

During the post-match presentation, Mohit Sharma stated that playing at Mohali helped him a lot (*was a part of PBKS earlier). Mohit Sharma revealed that he discussed lines & lengths with skipper Hardik Pandya. Mohit Sharma gave credit to the coach & pointed out that he was told to bowl after 10 overs.
“I have had a good time at this venue. I thought of sticking to my variations, had a chat with Hardik in the middle overs, luckily it paid off. You need to train hard, give your 100 percent,” said Mohit Sharma.

“Need to bowl according to the situation, and stick to the basics. I was given a role to bowl after 10 overs. Credit goes to the coach who has defined everyone’s role in the team,” he added.
