BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Unveils Exciting Updates on ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and Asia Cup


In a highly anticipated announcement, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed crucial details regarding the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and the much-awaited Asia Cup. Speaking after the board’s Special General Meeting in Ahmedabad, Shah shared exciting prospects that are set to shape the future of cricket in the Indian subcontinent. 

World Cup Schedule to be announced during the WTC final

The BCCI secretary unveiled that the official schedule and venues for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India will be unveiled during the grand finale of the ongoing World Test Championship in London. Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly awaiting this revelation, which is expected to set the stage for an exhilarating tournament. 

Simultaneously, Shah disclosed that a decision on the Asia Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be held prior to the World Cup, will be made in the coming days. Representatives from several Asian Cricket Council members are currently in attendance for the IPL final, slated to take place on Sunday between the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans. Shah expressed optimism about the fruitful discussions with ACC members and Associate nations, indicating that the future of the Asia Cup will soon be determined.

Highlighting the BCCI’s commitment to providing an enhanced cricketing experience, Shah shared that 15 stadiums have been shortlisted for improvements in basic facilities. These upgrades aim to prioritize fan satisfaction, and additional stadiums will be considered at a later stage. Grant Thornton, a renowned consulting firm, has been entrusted with the task of implementing these improvements. 

Furthermore, Shah revealed that specific committees will be formed to oversee various aspects of the 2023 World Cup in India and the Women’s Premier League. Additionally, a dedicated committee will be responsible for drafting the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) policy, underscoring the BCCI’s commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment within cricket. 

Afghanistan series before World Cup

In another exciting development, a limited-overs series between India and Afghanistan has been proposed before the World Cup. Although the precise dates and venues are yet to be finalized, cricket enthusiasts can anticipate a thrilling contest between these two competitive teams. 

Shah also acknowledged the positive response garnered by the impact player rule introduced in the ongoing IPL season. This innovative concept has been embraced by all teams and players, leading to a record-breaking number of totals exceeding 200. Furthermore, boundaries and sixes have soared past the 1,000 and 2,000-mark, respectively, igniting excitement and delivering unprecedented entertainment to fans worldwide.
