Nathan Lyon didn’t look comfortable out in the middle. However, he hit a boundary off Stuart Broad and added crucial 15 runs with Mitchell Starc before being cleaned up by the veteran pacer. There was a rousing reception for Lyon as he entered the long room after getting dismissed. With the help of good performance by batters and Lyon’s brave effort, Australia posted a target of 371 runs for England.
Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon’s participation in the remainder of the series is in doubt and he is most likely to be replaced by the young spinner Todd Murphy in the next match.
Lyon’s absence will undoubtedly be a major blow to Aussies’ Ashes hopes as he has been delivering match-winning performances for the side for a very long period of time.
Notably, the Lord’s Test against England was his 100th consecutive Test match. He became just the sixth player and first bowler in history to feature in 100 consecutive Tests. Other players on the list are Alastair Cook (159), Allan Border (153), Mark Waugh (107), Sunil Gavaskar (106), and Brendon McCullum (101).
