David Warner revealed the warning that the Australian team received against Just Oil protestors for the ongoing Ashes 2023 series. David Warner also said that he wanted to protect the wicket and that is why he wanted to stop the protestor who invaded the field on Day 1 of the ongoing 2nd Test.

A serious event occurred during the Day 1 of England vs Australia Lord’s Test when two Just Oil protestors attacked the field at Lord’s stadium. While one of the protestors was stopped before he could contact the player, the other one was stopped by England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow. The event occurred just after the 1st over and stopped the play for a while.

We Were Told To Stand Away And Be Careful: David Warner

While speaking to reporters after the Day 1 of Lord’s Test, Australia opener David Warner was asked by a reporter about the warnings they received against Just Oil protestors. He also asked whether they were told to encounter them themselves. To this, the left-handed batsman said they were rather informed to stay away from them.

“No, we were actually told to stand away and just be careful. But for us, as I said like, we know what they’re trying to do to the wicket. I don’t want what that chalk does to the wicket but it would have been a long delay and we wouldn’t have wanted that,” said Warner., who scored a half-century on Day 1.

David Warner Takes Jibe At Jonny Bairstow

The 36-year-old batter also took a jibe at England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, who stopped one of the attackers from invading the pitch.

“So for us it was, not manhandling them like Jonny (laughs). But for us it was protecting the wicket and the best interests of what we felt out there,” Warner further said.

After manhandling one of the protestors, Jonny Bairstow sent one protestor off the ground. He had to move to the dressing room to change his clothes and equipment. At the stumps, Australia piled up 339/5. David Warner scored a superb knock of 66 runs in the 1st innings.

Meanwhile, Just Oil is a group that wants UK Government to stop new oil, coal, and gas projects in the United Kingdom. The protestors have also attacked some other football games and rugby in the United Kingdom in the past few months.
