Former Australian cricketer Mark Taylor was in awe of Alex Carey’s keeping during the second Test of the Ashes 2023 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He hailed him for Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal and said that it shows that he’s thinking all the time about how he can contribute to the team.
Alex Carey played a key role in Australia’s win at the Lord’s as he was at his best with the keeping gloves behind the stumps. He exhibited brilliant glovework as he took some great catches, effected stumping, and run-outs that contributed to the team’s win.

Alex Carey also hogged the headlines with the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow as he showed great presence of mind and produced a direct hit when the batter walked out of the crease after leaving the ball. That turned out to be the turning moment of the game as English skipper Ben Stokes was forced to attack as he batted with tailenders.
Mark Taylor said that Alex Carey had a terrific game and hailed his glovework as impeccable. He also credited the keeper-batter for Zak Crawley’s dismissals in both innings. Speaking to Channel 9, he said:

“He had a terrific game. Obviously would’ve liked to have made a few more, but his glovework was impeccable in this game. I think he just gets better every time I watch him.
“The stumping to remove (Zak) Crawley in the first innings was crucial, the catch down the leg side today, obviously the controversial stumping of Jonny Bairstow. What he’s doing is he’s thinking all the time about how he can contribute to Australia’s performance.”
Ashes 2023: “Another good all-round game for Pat with bat and ball,” Mark Taylor Lauds Australian skipper
Mark Taylor went to laud Pat Cummins for his brilliant captaincy to dismiss Ben Stokes when things were tough. He explained:
“Another good all-round game for Pat with bat and ball and also in the field. It wasn’t easy today, but (he) found a way around that lunch break just to settle the game down a bit, change tactics, bowl a bit wider to Ben Stokes, just keep him quiet for an over or two. It was getting away from them before lunch, but had that chance to regroup after lunchtime and came out and changed the game.”
Australia currently lead the series by a margin of 2-0. The third Test match will be played from Thursday (6th July).
