Ambati Rayudu could not have asked for a better end to his career in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-handed batsman bowed out of the IPL as one of the tournament’s most decorated players. On Monday, he helped Chennai Super Kings win IPL 2023 by beating Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets (DLS method) in the final.
It was Ambati Rayudu’s 6th IPL title as a player. No other player has won more IPL titles than him. He and his former Mumbai Indians teammate Rohit Sharma hold the record for winning the most number of IPL titles as a player so far – 6. Before the final, Ambati Rayudu had announced that the final against Gujarat Titans would be his last game in the IPL.
Ambati Rayudu gets emotional:
Ambati Rayudu ended his decorated IPL career with a sixth title. He also played a crucial role in the win. Chasing a revised total of 171 in just 15 overs, Chennai Super Kings were on 133 for 3 after 12 overs, needing 38 runs from the final 3 overs.
The Super Kings needed a big over and Ambati Rayudu delivered it for them. In the 13th over, he hit Mohit Sharma for two sixes and a four to put his side on the front foot before departing. Chennai Super Kings went on to register a thrilling last-ball win to win their fifth IPL title.
Following the end of the game, Ambati Rayudu was seen getting emotional. The veteran batsman was seen wiping his tears as his teammates and coach Stephen Fleming embraced him and waved him goodbye.

Rayudu began his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2010 and remained an integral part of the team till the 2017 season. With Mumbai Indians, he won three IPL titles before joining Chennai Super Kings in 2018. In his first season with the Chennai franchise, he scored more than 600 runs to help them win the title.
