England pacer Josh Tongue hailed his teammate Jonny Bairstow for saving Day 1 of Lord’s Test from Just Oil protesters. At the start of day 1 of England vs Australia 2nd Test at Lord’s Stadium in London, two protesters attacked the stadium with orange powder with them.
They planned to throw powder on the pitch so that the match can be affected. However, England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow caught hold of one of the protesters and lifted him out of the stadium. However, since his dress got dirty with orange powder, he went to the pavilion to change his jersey and equipment. The other protester was stopped by ground staff.

Jonny Bairstow Was Bit Of A Hero: Josh Tongue
While speaking to Sky Sports, Josh Tongue hailed Jonny Bairstow for his actions. He called him a hero who saved the Test match from getting delayed or postponed.
“Jonny doing what he did, who knows, the game could have been called off. Bit of a hero to be fair. If he didn’t stop him, they could’ve got on the pitch and done something to the pitch. For myself, I wouldn’t probably go towards them just in case they had anything else on them. Obviously Jonny doing that, maybe he shouldn’t have done that, but I don’t know the protocol, ” said Josh Tongue, who made his Test debut in England vs Australia 2nd Test.

Meanwhile, Australia player David Warner also took a dig at Jonny Bairstow for his actions. David Warner was at the field when the event happened. He revealed that they were asked to stay away, be careful, and not attack protesters like Jonny Bairstow did.
“We were actually told to stand away and be careful, but we know what they’re trying to do to the wicket so it was about – not manhandling them like Jonny – but it was about protecting the wicket. I don’t know what that chalk does to the wicket but it would have been a long delay and we wouldn’t have wanted that,” David Warner said.
