Freshmen often make a huge impact on College World Series teams.
Take last year for instance. Our No. 1 preseason Impact Freshman was Arkansas’ Peyton Stovall. Although he produced modest numbers during the regular season with a .285 batting average and 21 RBI, he provided a glimpse of what is likely to come in 2023 by batting .360 (9 for 25) with 10 RBI in five games at the 2022 CWS. His Razorback teammate, left-hander Hagen Smith, also impacted the Series. The No. 5 ranked freshman tossed 5.1 innings, producing a 1.80 ERA with eight strikeouts.
